I’m looking at a very current global issue regarding the 2019/20 outbreak of the Coronavirus (otherwise known as Covid-19) and the impact of this on shipping and the global supply chain – of course the spread of the virus is very much ongoing so I’m focused on the effects to date.

Originating in China, this virus has had a very significant impact on global trade which is problematic as we all share a very heavy reliance on Chinese manufacturing. This has led to many industry leaders trying to figure out how exactly trade products are still going to be reliably shipped to consumers, Coronavirus has caused the global shipping industry to veer off course!

There are numerous charities internationally, that work hard to deliver donations all year round, however Christmas is a particularly important time of year, when universally, people tend to share a little more generously as part of the Yuletide tradition.

However, the carbon footprint associated with this is a global issue. Deal or no deal?

With the March deadline for the UK leaving the European Union looming, the government is now creating contingency plans in the event of a ‘no-deal Brexit’. A particular worry for Transport Secretary Chris Grayling is the traffic jams surrounding the Port of Dover, the UK’s closest port to Europe. An immediate departure from the single market and customs union will result in extra checks for freight vehicles before entering Calais, Coquelles and Dunkirk.
